I posted the pencils of this splash intro to
The Brother on Facebook a while back and got an enthusiastic response, so I'll go ahead and share the inked and toned artwork below...

Like I said, my Facebook friends went nuts for this penciled page. It was a pleasant surprise. Jay Kelley, the creator and writer on
The Brother, was the most excited of all. He's been super-patient while I try to get some kind of work-flow going. The pencils were done on computer paper with a good old-fashioned #2 pencil from office depot.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to finish this (and it's not even lettered yet). Not so much that it was hard, but it was hard to prioritize. Being married with a full-time job and a toddler is no excuse, but it sure feels like one... Anyways, after the applause on Facebook died down, I put it on a
lightbox and inked it with a
water based brush pen and a
fine point Sharpie pen on a piece of bristol board. Then I scanned it into photoshop and tightened it up and added the tones.
I'm pretty happy with the results, and I hope (for the sake of poor Jay's sanity) I can get on a better schedule! Enjoy!
peace,
-samax
