[SOLD!] Untitled Watercolor

So I was all wound up last night, and after looking at some paintings on Facebook I was inspired to do some doodling on canvas. I have a bunch of these 9 x 12 joints laying around, so I wasn't under pressure to make a masterpiece or anything...

Commission Art of Mythical Proportions!

Commissions are STIIILLLL going!
here's the character designs i did for my friend J.R. LeMar of his character Mythical Man. I drew them with a watercolor marker and tightened it up with a micron and some judicious photoshopping (i actually drew the sword in photoshop). hope y'all like 'em.
if you have any questions, just get at me.

And The CUPID Goes To...

design for the "ghettoManga Award" Trophy (click to enlarge).
the awards are also called "Cupids" (like the Academy gives out "Oscars")
"Cupid" is the name of the ghettoManga Mascot. i'm actually working on some comic book stories for this character waaaay on the back burner... for reference i used this photo by A Blind Vision Photography. her work features EXACTLY the kind of women i like to draw, so you'll pro'lly see me ref'ing her stuff a lot! hopefully, i'll get to actually make these trophies eventually! i already have my eye on the sculptor... we'll see!
anyways... if you wanna know who the ghettoManga Award winners for '08 were, go here
buy a print of the image here.

FINALLY!!!

Who Knew? The product of a single-parent houshold and biracial son of an immigrant, Barack Obama has become what most Americans thought they would never see in their lifetime: the America's first black President!
so to commemorate one of the most unlikely events in American history, i'm making my illustration President Obama the Image of the Month for February. i became enamored with the Illinois Senator at the beginning of the primary season, and once the Iowa vote came down, i thought he could actually win it. although i disagree with him on some issues, and i get concerned with the unrealistic expectations some people seem to have, Obama's manner and intellect are what i want in a politician.
anyways, President Obama (like other Image of the Month alumni) is available for purchase in the Ziontific store on gear and posters in multiple sizes.

Stand Up for Your Writes!

nah, i didn't start writing rhymes or anything (i know better than that...), but i DO have new Journals with my images available in the Ziontific shop, including Murder Rap and Daydreamer, shown here. your journal will be filled with your choice of 60lb bookweight (24 lb bond) paper -- blank (for sketching), dot grid, lined college-ruled, or a task journal. this is a good gift for you, or the writer, artist, organizer, or wanna-be in your life! peep my full line of journals here!

changing the way you look
and the way you see since
2005

on the low...

i already started on my Christmas gifts this year... my daughter's very first yuletide gift from Dad will be this fresh "My Big Sister is a Cockerspaniel" bodysuit, illuminating her relationship to my wife's beloved Cockerspaniel, Millie. they are available in white, pink and baby blue in the Ziontific online store. they also come in "My Big Brother..." and "My First Baby..." varieties for just $12.99, with other gifts for lovers of Cockerspaniels too, so happy shopping!

i saw my shirt on E. Bey!

here's one of my Tee shirts with the image Miraculous, worn by Atlanta-based cartoonist/emcee/black superman Elihu Bey, creator of the extra-dimensional aboriginal mind-bender Neverknots.
he's one of the most original voices out there, and if he manages to do HALF of what he has in mind for his comic, the art form will never be the same! click on his picture and check him out if you think i'm just talking crap.
by the way, if you wanna get your hands on one of those fresh tees, click the pic to the right and go over to the Ziontific store and see what we got to choose from!

Image of the month August

Prints available

America's relationship with the Military is a strange and ambivalent one. they need our protection just as much as we need theirs. The Soldier challenges you to see our troops -for all their heroism and power- as fellow human beings. how a viewer interprets this image says as much about their views on war, government and patriotism as it does about my perspective on these matters.

chugging along...

i haven't been blogging very much lately. working feverishly to wrap up ghettoManga Quarterly's debut issue, get ready for Playlist, the art show with the mighty ghostWerks crew on August 21st, and prepare for the impending birth of my daughter. at any rate, all three are on the brink, so stay tuned for news about all that as it develops.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I've been getting more purchases going through over at the Ziontific store, so if you are one of the people buying my shirts and cards, thanks! i haven't been promoting much lately, but i guess i'm experiencing some delayed payoffs from past marketing!
anyways, thanks for sticking with me, and expect more REAL news soon...
peace,

great Show in denton last weekend!

Dencon went great! i sold out of Spontaneous, so i'ma re-up with the printer, to be ready for CAPE, and i met tons of cool. much love to my man David Hopkins (Karma Incorporated, Antigone, Emily Edison) for passin' that email along hippin' me to the show! Charlene and i had a blast revisitin' the alma mater and meeting and making fans!
speaking of fans, i promised i'd make this Spontaneous Sketchbook Poster available for purchase online, and i wanna keep my word! cop this 11x17 joint for the paltry sum of $10

Spontaneous is here!

After a long hiatus from the publishing scene, ghostWerks returns with a new ongoing project: Spontaneous featuring art and writing by me. the Spring 2008 volume-available in both paperback and hardcover- can be purchased in the ghostWerks store. you can get the hardcover for Forty bucks, or cop the paperback for just twenty.

in addition, look for all three ghostWerks artists' work in The Book of Angels and Nightmares later on this year from ArtLoveMagic.com, and the long-awaited launch of quarterly magazine/comics anthology ghettoManga Quarterly.

peace,
samax.
