Here's a piece I did for an art contest on Facebook. I hate contests for all sorts of reasons, but I took it as an opportunity to start a discussion about the "Starving Artist Mindset" and the importance of teaching artists of all sorts to overcome it.

Straight Outta Azgard
The Mighty Thor by Samax.I always loved the bearded Thor Walt Simonson drew in the comic where Thor got wounded by the death goddess Hela and started rockin' the Grizzly Adams... figured i'd hook the thunder god up with a beard for this joint. i pretty much went straight Taliban on that joker, although i doubt anyone would mistake him for Bin Laden... anyways, i made this with 100% photoshop. hope y'all like it!
[UPDATE] This puppy is the Image of the month for December, so that means i'll hook anybody up with a print who's willing to part with $20. let me know if you're interested!
holla!

He Read My Mind

when my man David Hopkins wrote this one page story for me to draw for his new book One Night Stand, i think he was trying to guess what I wanted to draw... and he was right! even though i procrastinated until after the last minute (i finished this monday night), i still think it turned out really well! in this book, David has written a series of one page stories, each drawn by a different artist, about sex, love, and in some cases both. long-time readers may remember that i participated in similar book Mine All Mine , also written by David. it was so much fun, that i was happy to try it again! anyways, One Night Stand will be in stores December 30th, and i may be able to wrangle some copies for purchase here as well.
let me know what you think!

My Fan Art Got Published!
i submitted this drawing of Unknown, one of the characters in Ross Campbell's Wet Moon OGN series, a while back. even though he told me that he liked the piece, i didn't know that he had decided to use it until i bought my copy of Wet Moon Volume 5: Where All Stars Fail to Burnpeace,

Image of the Month for April

the Image of the Month for April on samaxAmen.com is Maddy's Mug, starring Li'l Madd Skillz of Champion of Children. I have a full-color Champ short story that has been put on hiatus because i've been doing so well in my freelance work. but now that Corance has another artist working on a brand-new story starring Burner, i imagine i'll find a way to get my story back on its feet sooner than expected! also, if you are into kid's comics, peep the Champion of Children blog for reviews of books and comics
for the young'uns!

New "Cupid" Character Design Sketch
here's a new drawing i did of "Cupid" the ghettoManga mascot. this drawing will serve as the basis for the ghettoManga Awards trophy (hey, the academy's got that li'l naked gold dude!). this is the first drawing of the character with her trademark braids undone (she needs to go get her hair "did")...anyways, hope ya'll dig it!

FINALLY!!!
Who Knew? The product of a single-parent houshold and biracial son of an immigrant, Barack Obama has become what most Americans thought they would never see in their lifetime: the America's first black President! so to commemorate one of the most unlikely events in American history, i'm making my illustration President Obama the Image of the Month for February. i became enamored with the Illinois Senator at the beginning of the primary season, and once the Iowa vote came down, i thought he could actually win it. although i disagree with him on some issues, and i get concerned with the unrealistic expectations some people seem to have, Obama's manner and intellect are what i want in a politician.
anyways, President Obama (like other Image of the Month alumni) is available for purchase in the Ziontific store on gear and posters in multiple sizes.
Image of the Month
the Image of the Month for January on samaxAmen.com is this sketch of Baby Allah, the lead character of Ballerz, a comic property i've been developing for a while now. Ballerz will follow the exploits of a basketball team that trades for a ball-player with All-star skills but rap star drama. the book will feature an ensemble cast, and non-stop action on (and off) the court.anyways, there's merch featuring this sketch of Baby Allah in the Ziontific store!

Murder Rap by samax
no, it's not Balrog
sketch of Iron Mike Tyson by samax (for the sketchbook Allstars sketchjam: Fighters). watercolor brush pens on paper.i've never been all that big into fighting, but you didn't need to be to dig Iron Mike when i was comin' up! he was like a super hero (or villain, depending on how you look at it...) knocking professional fighters unconscious before the popcorn was even ready! every comedian mentioned him... he had rappers writing songs about him... not the greatest boxer ever, but my personal favorite!
(NOTE: I decided to make this the Image of the Month for December. buy stuff with this image here. the original art can be bought for just $25. if you want it, get at me. offer ends Dec 31)

Was It Good For You?
well, September's almost over, so i may as well update the Image of the Month, right? i had The Soldier up there all month, even though it was supposed to be the Image for August... "better late than never" i always say!
so i'll use the hot new sketch, Was It Good For You #2 that i whipped up earlier this month... it got lotsa love on mySpace, so i'll drop it here as well! this will probably be in the next Spontaneous volume i do (probably winter 08 or early 09, so stay tuned), and there will eventually be a series of prints (see WIGFY#1 here) once there are enough of 'em...
peace.

America's relationship with the Military is a strange and ambivalent one. they need our protection just as much as we need theirs. The Soldier challenges you to see our troops -for all their heroism and power- as fellow human beings. how a viewer interprets this image says as much about their views on war, government and patriotism as it does about my perspective on these matters.JG8D69D

these and more styles for men and women are available in the store at Ziontific.com.
so, i'm in the process of getting my stores ready for the Holiday rush when yesterday, i changed my profile picture to the sketch "True and Living", and suddenly got a ton of friend requests, as well as a few messages and comments, including demands to make this available on tee-shirts.
feel free to look around the stores when you get there... and as always, if you take a picture with one of my products, i'll post the pics here!

Buffalo Soul (Update)...
research sketch, ballpoint pen, sharpie
what's up fam!here's an illustrator joint i finished recently called "Buffalo Soul", commisioned by one of my clients. "Buffalo Soul" is about the Buffalo Soldiers, the black division in the U.S. military before it was integrated. the term "buffalo soldier" was coined by native americans to describe these rawkus brown dudes they kept seeing on the battlefields...
original drawing for final design, pencil
as always let me know what y'all think!

signed "Miraculous" prints.
now that i have a little break from conventioneering, i'm making available these signed prints of "Miraculous"...
Miraculous is a drawing that illustrates my view of Love and Spirituality . it speaks of, and to, the longing for a relationship that is "right" in every sense of the word... like many of my "sweetheart" drawings, it's a wish, a prayer... a drawing done with one set of fingers holding the pencil, and the other set crossed behind my back (figuratively speaking, of course!). i'm one of those folks that STILL believes in God, Love, and Angels, and that they usually work in unison... and sometimes, in pieces like this one, it shows in my work.
the prints are standard 8 1/2 x 11 (so they're easy to frame), and hand-signed by the artist (that's me!) you can cop one for just $25, with free shipping!
peace, Love, etc.
