my Art Conspiracy painting...

"Madonna and Child" was painted on a 3' x 3' piece of plywood, lightly primed. well, i used the term "painted" loosely... the yellow and brown tones in the piece are painted with Acrylic, the rest was done with Sharpies.

it sold at a charity auction sponsored by Art Cionspiracy in dallas earlier in the month. took me a while to figure out how to get the piece off my cell phone and onto the web where you could see it... so, here it is! hit me with comments and/or questions (commissions don't suck either...)

Art Conspiracy benefit show

i'm part of a benefit show this sunday Dec 9 at The Door (2513 Main St in Dallas) called Art Conspiracy III ...

i'll be on deck from 6-9pm saturday painting at the venue. i'll do a freestyle piece, so i don't know what i'm gonna paint, but i'm taking suggestions all the way up to the time of, so lemme know your ideas!

cover is 10 bucks, proceeds go to St. Anthony's Community Center. it's fun for the whole fam! get at me, and i'll have other swag in my napsack for those that wanna cop somethin'... i'll bring paintings, prints and postcards, PLUS the work i create for the show will be auctioned off, so you can get it cheap, i'm sure!

Buffalo Soul (Update)...

what's up fam!
here's an illustrator joint i finished recently called "Buffalo Soul", commisioned by one of my clients. "Buffalo Soul" is about the Buffalo Soldiers, the black division in the U.S. military before it was integrated. the term "buffalo soldier" was coined by native americans to describe these rawkus brown dudes they kept seeing on the battlefields...

in doing my research for this, i got into the subject! originally applied to the members of the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army, the term Buffalo Soldier eventually encompassed the U.S. 9th Cavalry Regiment, U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment, 24th Infantry Regiment and the 25th Infantry Regiment

for those who didn't know, i got married on October 20th, 2007... big thanks to all who attended or sent us cards and gifts. we dated in college, and sometimes it seemed like all of creation was holding its breath waiting for this to happen... so exhale, creation! this is compelling evidence (if only to me) that miracles really do happen!

why is "Spontaneous" Still not Ready?

yeah, i know...

i'm still pluggin' away at Spontaneous, my 64 page Artbook/Sketchbook/freestyle comic... it should be done by the end of September. i am including a 10 page ghettoManga insert, which is what i am working on now. ghettoManga is my magazine, all about (as the subtitle suggests) "comics, hipHop, news, art, and culture". based on my blog of the same name, producing a full sized gM periodical is among the things i would most like to do. when i try to explain what i want it to be, people get confused, so i thought Spontaneous would be a good place to show people what it is...

this preview issue features articles, reviews, and design, all by me. my goal with this is to get a deal to publish a full-sized gM with other people's money as soon as possible (anybody wanna advertise?)...

anyways, that's the main excu... er, reason the book isn't done yet. but i'll definitely finish it soon, so stay tuned. also, you can still preorder this 80+ page labour of love via paypal (or by sending a money order) for just $35.

Sept 7th, I'll be at the Urban Arts Festival

me and the my Lady went down to celebrate my momma's birthDay yesterday with the Fam... since i'm poor (and we were already going to an expensive restaurant!), i made her a gift instead. that gift was the illustration

"Leo: Queen by Birth", shown here. after i gave it to her, i had the bright idea to make them available for purchase in my shop... THEN i had the even BRIGHTER idea to do a theme store dedicated to each birth sign on the zodiological calendar!

so anyways, there are several liontific images in the Leo section already. i will try to add at least one new section to my Zodiac store each month, for the primary birthsign of that month (next month is Virgo...), so stay tuned!
